Consistently hilarious (and often NSFW) New York blog Gay Men’s Social Crisis was inspired by Drew Barrymore’s new derby-inspired film Whip It to take a look at roller derbies nationwide to find some hotties on wheels. Who came out on top? None other than Portland’s own Rose City Rollers!
Most of the [derby] girls are not quite the Suicide Girls the movie depicts, with the MAJOR exception that is the alternative sexiness that exists in the Portland teams, the Rose City Rollers. However… Roller Derby coaches almost always really, really hot.
The blog gives shout-outs to the coaches of RCR’s coaches of Wheels of Justice and the Fresh Meat program.
This (delightfully amusing) objectification of the derby dudes comes shortly after Just Out columnist Kathryn Martini posited that the roller derby movement constituted an expression of a fourth wave of the feminist movement. She writes:
I imagine [the fourth wave of the feminist movement] to be a time not so much about equality and diversity but one in which feminism goes without saying, and without the need for a label. Roller derby encompasses feminine strength without apology or a need to emulate masculinity.
Can objectifying hot men be an expression of this fourth wave? My God, I hope so.
