Referendum 71, providing protections for domestic partners in Washington was passed, albeit narowly, by 51.1 percent.
Across the Columbia River, our neighbors in Clark County defeated the measure by a percentage of 53.2 percent, as reported by The Columbian.
How conservative has our neighbor to the north become?

They don’t call Vancouver, Vantucky for nothing…

Very, unfortunately, although glimmers of hope remain. You can always count on the bastion of progressive thought pocketed in the downtown Vancouver/uptown areas–and those around Clark College. I actually expected it to be defeated here by a wider margin, and I was pleasantly surprised by 53%.

Daniel is correct. I used to work up in Clark County and I think the City of Vancouver in itself is getting fairly progressive. A lot of younger folks live there because they have been priced out of Portland.
But, go up to Battle Ground, Washougal, Amboy, I think you are going to find a different mindset. It is changing, though. I mean, Clark County did go blue for President this year.

clark county is becoming less conservative as a whole– albeit slowly– there are many, many of us who aren’t shy about who we are or who our friends are. this isn’t a lost cause– we just have work to do.
