During yesterday’s Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing, which focused on witness testimony in support of passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, rookie Senator from Minnesota (and damned funny man) Al Franken was outlining a statement in front of Assistant Attorney General of Civil Rights Tom Perez, surrounding the evolution and inevitability of civil rights in America. Franken noted that to his 20-something children, someone’s sexual orientation is about “as interesting as their left hand.” He then quipped, “I happen to think it’s more interesting than being left-handed, but…” before Perez interrupted him to retort, “I’m ambidextrous.”
The room erupted into laughter, as Franken, comedically deadpan, stated, “I’m not gonna touch that one.”
Finally, some funny in the government! Obama counts, too.
