Speak Out 2009 Survey Results to be Announced November 19th

November 13th, 2009 at 3:55 pm by Ryan Prado · No Comments

Data analysis has begun in the Multnomah County Health Department’s Speak Out 2009 survey, which sought to find the root causes of the gay, lesbian, bi and trans community’s significantly poorer health outcomes than those of hetero or cisgender peers.

Questions such as “How do early childhood experiences, gender conformity, and a sense of community connection relate to health?” were asked, and over 800 people participated in the survey. You can come hear the initial results and give input for future directions during the Queer Health Series: Speak Out 2009 Survey Results function at the Q Center.

Additional information:

The presentation will share initial findings from the survey including such factors as chronic disease, mental health, substance use, social and family support, stigma, relationship status and sexual health. This is the first time such data have been collected in the Portland metro area. The presentation will be followed by a discussion as to the program and policy implications of the survey findings.

This presentation will educate and inform conference attendees on health issues for the LGBTQI communities. Attendees will have an opportunity to voice their opinions and ideas as to how to improve mental health, substance abuse, and health outcomes for LGBTQI communities.

The event is set for Thursday, November 19th, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
