Project Runway guru and silver fox Tim Gunn sounded off to the LA Times about his most hated garment:
I cannot wrap my brain around the ubiquity of Crocs. Kelly Ripa [on Live with Regis and Kelly] said, “I insist that you put them on because they’re so comfortable.” And I put them on. I am looking down at my feet, and I feel like I have hooves! They’re horrible. If we all succumbed to the comfort trap, to dress as if we never got out of bed — then we should never get out of bed.
Before you think “Quelle surprise, a fashionista has a dim view of a mainstream clothing trend,” don’t write off Gunn yet. He’s been working with “America’s Doctor” Dr. Oz to bring a message of fashion redemption to those living with health issues.
I’m thinking, “How can I possibly talk to them about fashion when this is a life-and-death situation?” And they’ve said: “Fashion is important [because] it’s the only thing I can take charge of, the only thing I really control, and when I look good, I feel better, and that can only help my health.”
Just as long as the chronically ill don’t wear unbecomingly comfortable shoes, I suppose….
