Judge Madelina Vega has ordered that Juan Martinez Matos – suspect in the brutal murder of Jorge Steven Lopez – be held on $4 million bail. Matos has also reportedly confessed to the murder.
Matos is expected to utilize a “gay panic” defense, considering that Matos’ murderous rage (which may also usher in the first prosecution under the recently signed Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act) was purportedly piqued after he discovered Lopez was actually a man after he solicited the teen for sex.
Matos is schedule to return to court on December 7th.

I don’t know why I’m still shocked that homophobia exists to this extent. Disgusting! Feeling a little ’straight’ panic…
