As reported in the newest issue of Just Out, a fundraiser to benefit the Portland Pride Build will take place December 3rd at Q Center (4115 N. Mississippi Ave.). Here’s a quick rundown of the event, as well as what Portland Pride Build is all about.

Pearl District real estate developer Bob Ball spent his summer working on the Portland Pride Build, a specialty build that is partnering with Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East. Portland Pride Build embraces the city’s diversity by bringing together the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and allies to construct a healthy and practical home for a family in need.

The current project is to build a home for the Jimenez family in Southeast Portland, at SE 97th and Woodstock. Construction began on June 27 and should be finished by the end of the year. The solid, affordable home is being built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity’s guidelines; the homeowner will purchase the house at cost and pay a zero percent interest mortgage.

To help raise funds for the next effort, Habitat for Humanity and Portland Pride Build are holding a night of cheer with their “Home for the Holidays” benefit, 6-9 p.m. Thursday, December 3 at Q Center (4115 N. Mississippi Ave.).

Ball will host the event, along with his partner Grant Jones; George Eighemy and partner Peter Livingston; and Bill Dickey and partner David Wagner. The event also promises live music by Lynn Frances Anderson, wine, champagne and hors d’ oeuvres. Those interested in volunteering with Portland Pride Build can contact Jennifer Perkins at jennifer@habitatportlandmetro.org. No experience needed!
