Falling in line with national Christian leaders who came out this month to oppose the pending anti-gay legislation facing the parliament of Uganda, five Republican representatives have drafted a letter of condemnation to Ugandan President Yoweri Mouseveni. The five representatives include Chris Smith, Frank Wolf, Joe Pitts, Trent Franks and Anh “Joseph” Cao.
The letter directs a hard-line Christian backdrop to aid the call to its opposition, stating, ““As Members of Congress and as men of faith, we support the principles set forth in the declaration and are thankful for the principled position of these faith leaders on a host of issues, from the sanctity of life for the unborn and others, to religious freedom, to human dignity, to the belief that marriage is an institution between one man and one woman.”
However, they say that their faith also compels them to oppose this legislation, which is antithetical to a “foundational Christian belief in the inherent dignity and worth of all men and women.”
Meanwhile, the drafter of the anti-gay bill – which includes consequences of death for consensual homosexual sex while infected with HIV or with underage citizens, as well as life imprisonment for any homosexual acts – David Bahati, is still rallying support for the implementation of the bill, and the signing of the law. Bahati recently spoke with National Public Radio, stating:
“You are either anti-homosexual or you’re for homosexuals, because there’s no middle point. Anybody who does not believe that homosexuality is a crime is a sympathizer.”

Oh, the GOP. “We hate the gays, too, but we can’t just murder them! (But we understand why you might want to!) Just don’t talk about it! (Secret hate that breeds dangerous homophobia is fine!)”
