Uganda’s Ethics Minister, James Nsaba Buturo, made the claim today that the live-from Uganda gay blog – Gay Uganda - was the recipient of some $20 million U.S. dollars from an unnamed foreign (uhh, American) entity. The Minister also claimed that this money was being used to promote homosexuality in Uganda.

Okay. Not only was Buturo the man behind the false information of Uganda dropping the death penalty from its globally decried “Kill the Gays” legislation (currently pending in the Ugandan parliament), but anyone with half a brain can see that if Gay Uganda were recently given $20 million USD to vamp up their site, or to “promote” homosexuality, they’re just plain doing it wrong.

Buturo claims that the blog is run by one of three civil society organizations allegedly promoting homosexuality activities in Uganda. On the contrary, the site’s lone, anonymous author blogged today:

“I, gayuganda, I am a single human being. Sorry, but my English fails me. This is not a group, or a family, or a cabal or whatever. This is one human being, a Ugandan, living, working in Uganda, who happens to be gay. I am certainly not a Civil Society Organisation. IS THAT CLEAR? … Secondly, huh, 20 Million USD? I would really love to get at least a tenth of that. Ok, I will not be greedy, I will settle for much, much less. Christmas is here, and the bills are not completely paid. My lover wants more than I can give him, the usual problems of life. If I had just a fraction of that, I would be really, really happy.”

Lies, lies, lies continue in the debate on this anti-gay legislation, and further the polarizing focus on painting the West as the “cause” of homosexuality in Uganda. As Queerty points out, it’s outlandish that it’s actually working.
