TransActive Releases “You Are What You’re Born…”

A new video by TransActive Education & Advocacy examines the “negative cumulative effect that oppressive and exploitative media representations have on all transgender people, especially children and youth.”

Entitled “You Are What You’re Born… in Texas,” the clip explores how trans people are portrayed and viewed not only by the culture at large, but by and in the mass media. It also features a segment on coverage of Mrs. Nikki Araguz, the widow of a fallen firefighter now in a court battle for her deceased husband’s death benefits — and the very validity of their marriage.
