Protest With a Rainbow

July 8th, 2008 at 9:26 am by Jaymee Cuti · 5 Comments

A coalition of queer organizations in San Francisco will be handing out rainbow stickers at noon July 12 in the Castro District. The give-away is not a statement in support of gay rights so much as a protest against their perception that Human Rights Campaign ongoingly refuses “to support federal legislation that actually protects all LGBT people from employment discrimination” [aka the ENDA debacle].

The rainbow stickers are designed to be placed over HRC bumper stickers.

Would you use one if the same give-away were happening in P-town?

Yes I would and I know many people who would like to also. That being said, the local chapter of HRC seems to be more trans supportive than the national organization.

How about instead of placing the new sticker over the HRC sticker we put a rainbow sticker on boths of the HRC sticker.

I would participate in this protest. We can’t forget our trans brothers and sisters. There’s a reason we have a ‘T’ in ‘LGBT’. HRC should know that equality MEANS equality, FOR EVERYONE!

I know a number of straight people that have HRC stickers on their vehicle and they had no clue that it had anything to do with LGBT rights. They told me they thought it was for “human” rights.

I’ve been ROYALLY pissed of at HRC ever since they threw our “T” brothers and sisters under the bus for traction.

I don’t put any kind of political or queer stickers on my vehicle. There are people out there watching you and I fear vandalism or worse. I prefer to cruise “under the radar”. You are much more dangerous if they can’t track you!
