The Interview, Rescheduled

February 2nd, 2009 at 8:18 am by Jaymee Cuti · 4 Comments

This evening I have an interview with Mayor Sam Adams.

It is not the interview I requested here. Because of the attorney general’s investigation, Adams is prohibited from speaking about his scandal. He is, however, ready to speak about city business in reference to his 100 Days plan, which was posted here but was removed Jan. 28.

Under those confines–Mayor Adams’ first 100 days in office, the foundation of his vision for Portland–what do you want to know?

It is doubtful that Sam Adams will be in office for 100 days. The mounting evidence that he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old, his ever changing story, replete with lies and evasions, not to mention his slander of a prominent gay rights activist, all suggest he will be forced to resign. So, why are you dignifying his presence by interviewing him about “city business,” while ignoring the most important issues he is involved in?

Ask how he plans on moving forward with his education plans. Will it continue to include the mentoring component? Who will be administering that? What are his plans for his “behind the scenes” role in this education agenda – what will that consist of, look like?

Will he play any role at all in advancing Safe Schools Legislation in this current legislative session?

What is happening with hiring a new Communications person?

Apparently a new communications person has been hired, though we’ve not seen anything official yet.

I want to know how the mayor is going to protect Portland from the massive boondoggle known as the Columbia River Crossing, risking our air quality, our urban growth control, and our global warming footprint–all at a moment when the economy is six feet under and traffic is dwindling anyway.
